Sometimes in the morning

Sometimes in the morning
Lucy says
“carry me downstairs”
and so I carry her
and as we pass the mirror in the hall
I say: “that’s called me and that’s called you
when it’s this mouth talking”
(pointing to my own mouth)
“and that’s called you and that’s called me
when it’s that mouth talking”
(pointing to her mouth)
“… so whether it’s me or you
depends on which mouth is doing the talking”

This morning she asks:
“and what are we when nobody is talking?”
