“Religion” is too broad a term to usefully throw accusations at … you need to say what about religion is disabling.

A whole bunch of overlapping practices get included in the term, leaving exemplars having only family resemblances with each other.

For example, the practice of meditation which is part of many religious disciplines, seems to be pretty clearly good for mental health and community benefit. Similarly community gatherings.

And historically religious institutions were often the main locations of academic development. There is a line of thought that christian orthodoxy essentially destroyed itself by teaching scholars to think.
