How to … view Public Journeys inside the Thortspace App

Dear Thortspace Support, I do not see an option to actually lift thorts for a 3rd party person that will view my map once it is published. Is there a way to create lifted thorts once it is published and clicked by the viewer?

Thanks for your feedback.

Just as a terminology note, in Thortspace we have been calling presentations “Journeys”, so as to emphasise the idea that you are moving around inside the “thortspace”. Hopefully this is not too much of a cause of confusion?

The Web version of Thortspace (which is at https://thort.space) does not yet support lifting thorts in journeys.

What the web version does instead, as a workaround to this feature being missing, is to zoom in on thorts which in the app are displayed as lifted thorts.

So, for example, if you share a public journey via a URL like this one (called “Lifting thorts”) https://thort.space/journey/110898789587140112950_5328271689788401017_-1606387520786353525/1 you will see that whereas in the App this shows thorts being lifted, however when this journey is played in the browser it instead zooms in on each of those thorts in turn.

However the App version of Thortspace does support lifting thorts in Public journeys. So you could create a journey and make it Public. Then other users could view that journey in the App and see it in it’s full glory, although users would have to install a version of the App for this to work and they would have to manually navigate to the Public journey list.

Aside: The App versions of Thortspace that can be installed on different platforms can be found here: https://www.thortspace.com/main/get-thortspace-app/

Another thing that some users have done as yet another work-around, is to make screen recordings of the App while playing the journey.

The easiest improvement we could probably make here might be to enable public journey links to navigate to the journey in the App.

In any case, as things stand at the moment:

  • Spheres in Thortspace can be privately shared with other users (for the purposes of collaboration).
  • But Journeys can only be either Private or Public (ie. viewable by everyone with a browser or anyone running the App).
