A “no deal” Brexit was (1) never mentioned by the leave campaign in the 2016 referendum — so no one can claim any democratic legitimacy for it (2) would make 99.99999% of people in the UK a lot poorer, not to mention all the other bad consequences — NHS staff shortages, shortages of medicines and food, long delays and huge lorry parks around ports, reduced ability to counter terrorism, and less control over immigration, to name but a few.
And “keeping no deal on the table as a negotiating tactic”, is rather like saying in a divorce that you will keep suicide on the table as a negotiating tactic.
It has become clear over the last 2 years, if it wasn’t already clear, that Brexit gives us a choice between a bad deal and a worse deal.
So we have to start to wonder, what is the motivation behind the conmen who are leading the UK into this abyss?
